The Dawn of My Senior Year

"Computers? What's that? Is it the same as the calculator which is used for computing?" These are the questions that I managed to babble when I first heard the word computer. I was 6 years old back then. It always makes me laugh whan I try to recall those days of ignorance.

I've known computers at an early age. We had computer literacy subjects in the elementary that's why my high school computer lessons weren't unfamiliar to me. However, they are somewhat different from what we've taken in the lower years.

Senior year TLE is all about I.C.T. When our teacher, Mrs Vera Cruz, introduced I.C.T. to us, i can't help but to squeal. She said that we'll be dealing with the internet, which is so cool. But then, during our early Senior school days, i felt a little bit uncomfortable with I.C.T.. The history part was so annoying! We had to memorize these and that dates, people, corporations and other things. However, it didn't take a long time 'till we jumped to another lesson. As days passed, T.L.E. became more and more interesting to me. The "blogging" activity made our T.L.E. something to look forward to.

Moving on I will try to study harder, and improve my writing skills through blogging. I find it very helpful and fun. But I also think that I.C.T. is an amazing subject. Long live I.C.T.!

SPEAK OUT, STEP UP!

How important is language to you?

Humans are the only creatures which has the ability to speak. Not bark, not hiss, not roar, but SPEAK. So, if we can speak we might as well use the appropriate languages for us Filipinos which is English and Filipino.

During infancy, we are able to utter our first few words. Some may be in local, national international dialect or, well, some may just be nonsense. What I'm trying to convey is that language can be learned as early as possible.

We tend to be astounded when we hear someone talk in straight English or Filipino. WHY? Because we are not used to hear or rather speak in those two languages. Almost every reading material in our country is in English and Filipino. Newspapers, magazines, journals, books, everything! This calls for the need to speak in either of these languages.

Some say that speaking in English opposes the nationalism of Filipinos. Our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal once said, " Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit pa sa amoy ng malansang isda". True. But in some ways many people disagree. How can we be globally competitive without learning English?

In our country, there will always be some kind of debate when we talk about these two languages. But instead of arguing on which one to use, why don't we try to learn them both? Why don't we exert effort to speak in either of them? Impressing people must not be the reason of speaking in English. Its purpose is mainly to educate and unite people.

Our love for our nation will never be erased. But we can't change the fact that times have changed and we have to go wit the flow of the modern world. We must not forget our national language, Filipino. But there is no harm in trying our hand at new things. WHO KNOWS? If majority of us are fluent in English and Filipino, we might be able to lift our country up to a new level. SPEAK OUT, STEP UP!

FOOD for thought and for the soul

Are you afraid of death? Let's revise the question.
ARE YOU AFRAID OF DISEASES? If yes, read this and take action!

Lifeless people, community, nation and world. This is what will happen when diseases dominates the world. Over the years, diseases have been one of the leading problems of man. Although technology has brought forward new processes, new substances and new ways to eliminate these diseases, still, it could not go against the will of these diseases to spread and terrorize people.

The influenza A(H1N1) continues to lord over the Philippines and other countries. "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure." True indeed. The most practical and reliable way of shielding ourselves from these diseases is to maintain a healthy body. A healthy body begins with nutritious foods. It must be engraved in our minds that we have to eat nutritious or vitamins & minerals-filled foods in order to be healthy.

Excercise. Excersise is a great factor that affects the state of our body. Early in the morning is the best time for us to strengthen those bones and muscles. This is done to condition our body for the day's tasks and activities. We must avoid being couch potatoes. Learn to leave your televisions and computers behind. Instead of making your body stiff, get your body working!
